I just joined with this site, however I feel that a preview function is an absolute necessity for this site, for both free and a paid version. You promote yourself as giving the user the power to be an editor and to choose and select what is published in their own paper, however without a chance to preview what goes online before it's published I really have no other choice but to believe that what you bill as your biggest advantage is rather misleading. I love the platform that you offer, however I still feel it's not quite up to par as far as for what you are leading people to think your program offers.

Hi Birgit,
It seems there is a disconnect between your original concept for Paper.li and what commercial users really want and will pay for. As far as I can make out, your original idea was that users could create papers that would be automatically generated - kind of a "hands free" publication.
That doesn't really work for many of us because we cannot take the reputational risk of having our corporate names appearing on newpapers that where we do not have complete control over the content.
However the automatic generation of content, coupled with the web tool for adding articles are both extremely attractive ways of generating content, and your automatic formatting of the paper is great.
So what we would pay for as a premium service is the product you have today that would automatically create a paper for us to preview, and then the ability to publish a static snapshot of that page to our subscribers. Your engine would then begin assembling the next version for us to preview at the next publication point.
We do not need out published papers to be dynamic, it is only the collection and assembly where the dynamic creation adds value.
For myself, I would publish weekly under our company name. As we deal with a continually evolving marketplace, this type of paper would be of real value to our clients.

Birgit, "Get to the bottom of it" is a bit vague.
I will start a trouble ticket to describe the inappropriate content and nude pictures I have had to delete. Since I try to get rid of that stuff as fast as possible, your support team will either need to spot it before the edition publishes and delete for me or ask me for examples that I have deleted.
As for the preview time we are all asking for to be able to edit our Daily papers (before they publish and before email subscribers receive copies) That isn't really something a trouble ticket will resolve as it is a feature request that seems to be something you all are planning to roll out in the future.

Birgit I appreciate the reply. I had unchecked the ADULT tab some time ago, but saw it today and unchecked again. I don't know that doing this will resolve my actual concern which was nude content showing up in the PHOTOS area as that is a separate section. I will watch the next few editions.
The inappropriate content I had previously mentioned was showing up throughout the entire Daily not just one particular section (Adult). My main request was for a preview and time to edit my Daily before email subscribers receive it or before it publishes.
I know that some odd content will slip in under the TV series twitter hashtags that I use. I am mainly looking for time to get rid of that stuff before the edition publishes.

Hi Alexis_SJ,
thank you for your comment. We have checked your paper and the main reason why this type of content (nude pictures ....) made it to your paper, is that the "Adult" topic is chosen for your paper. If you do not longer want to have such content in your paper, please exclude this topic (under your paper settings / content).
Furthermore we found out that you have set up a couple of hashtags as content sources. Adult content tweeters usually send out their content with a trending #tag. So if they see that a hashtag is trending, they throw it in there to get the most out of their tweet, so to speak.
We recommand to test the Twitter Search to check the results and then to improve the settings by using our filter tools.
Please let us know if we can help you improving your paper and to make sure that no inappropriate content will be published any more.
Thank you and best regards,
Birgit

Am following replies from staff for this issue because it is one of many that I think needs to be resolved quickly. I can only speak for myself when I say that I won't even consider your upcoming paid premium/advertising offerings until multiple issues regarding the Daily have been resolved.
If I don't have the option to preview and clean up editions before they publish, and If I have to delete articles, videos and pictures one at a time when I spot inappropriate content, that will keep me from wanting to pay for your service.
Birgit mentioned just using the update paper button, but nude pictures and other content show up with every edition, so updating over and over just brings new content that also needs to be deleted so that is not a solution.
I am hoping we do get some of the new features being promoted by staff, but I think you should reassess your priorities and fix some of the issues that have been posted for months by editors before moving to your prize project of launching a premium paid service.

OK, I've given up and deleted my paper today, after getting the 'snapshot' to find that the top three articles picked were about kids acting out online porn scenarios, a 12-year-old who had been gang-raped, and why dads aren't doing enough around the home (perfect, as Father's Day is coming up - how kind, I'm sure our customers will love all these stories!
I'm simply not willing to put my/the company's reputation on the line for content that is completely unpredictable and very often inappropriate. I won't be coming back until you can give me the control I need over the content. Without that, this site is useless.
Good luck to the rest of you - perhaps if enough of us delete our papers, they'll get their act in gear and fix this!

Finally I decided to unchecked the photos until we are able to publish the paper in a descent manner. The articles are multiples i delete it only to come back on the next upload. A lot of the articles are older than two days if we publish once per day it means that the articles could be as old as four days or more. We need a bottom to be able to delete it all at once instead of going back and forth. We do need desperately to be able to edit it correctly before we promote it. I would prefer less content fresh and worthwhile of my time and effort than three four pages of nonsense that has to be deleted ed. It has been over six months now, I am still trying. Lena.

The way I would like to be able to use Paper-li is to capture content all week using the browser tool (which works great for me using Google Chrome) and then publish at the end of the week all the material that I have gathered. I don't need a daily paper, but the current process does not support weekly papers at all with any kind of control.
My suggestion is to set an option so that at publication time, you can choose whether to publish new automatic content, or whether to publish the previous content. By selecting previous content, the paper that we have built over the past week, or past 24 hours, would be published and we would be confident of the content. Then we could begin building the next edition.

Agreed with all of the above! Especially necessary for those of us who are publishing on behalf of brands who emphatically DON'T want inappropriate content going out under their name!
We had a potential PR crisis this week when the paper's photo stream automatically published a photo of a couple... um... in flagrante delicto - I had to answer quite a few questions about how that image cropped up, esp as we are a baby-food company! NOT good, and embarrassing for me professionally, especially as I'm the person who decided to trial a daily paper. I deleted it manually, but not before a subscriber had seen and flagged it to my boss. >:-(
Separating the update and promotion times as suggested above would take care of all these issues. I agree with several previous posters that you're going to start losing subscribers if you can't offer that ASAP.

Knowing how hard you all worked to correct the problems following the recent platform upgrade, (for which many thanks!) it would seem a small additional task to split the paper compilation time and the paper promotion time. That's all we need.
Compile today's (or this week's) edition, then half an hour later, 'snap' the preview image and send out the emails to subscribers. I would even be happy with a set time, between compilation and promotion - say 30 minutes or 1 hour.
I do repeat, for me and many other people, this is the single best improvement you could make.

Any new estimated time on when the ability to edit paper first before publishing it/'going live' to subscribers is going to happen?...
Another voice of agreement. This is the single best change you could make - and the one item I cam looking for in the Help Screens and Forum.
The situation at the moment is that when the edition comes out, I go to edit it and move articles up and down, delete some, and promote the one I want to the top position. The problem is, the emails to subscribers have already gone out with an incorrect "snapshot view" of the top items etc. Also, some people who are quick off the mark, may read the paper before I've edited it!
It's simply a timing thing and should not be too difficult to implement - we just need two times to choose - (1) paper compilation time, and (2) paper promotion time.
we are truly sorry, but there is no specific time for it we could tell you at the moment. We are still working hard on it and try to bring it out as quickly as possible.

I wholeheartedly agree. Have been experimenting with paper.li for a bit over a month now. To me the advantage seems to be to MANUALLY CURATE the automatic news feeds.
