Promotion: Create you own promo tweet

It would be nice to be able to modify or create the text yourself for a promo tweet.

Until this becomes available from paper.li, my workaround is to maintain a "notepad" text file where I create highly customized and targeted Tweets which I then send out on my own schedule to promote my e-papers. I agree that what I'm doing is manually intensive but allows me much greater control over the content and timing of these Tweets and by saving them in a text file, I'm also to use them over and over once the verbiage has been finalized.   :-)

Just a note: we are currently working on a preview for Paper.li. A promo tweet that can be customized and scheduled is in the works as well. Probably down the road, but I wanted to come back to you and let you know it is on our list.

I'd second the preview before the promo tweet option. I have to rush through the paper and delete unwanted items and hope no one has noticed.

I had several thoughts on how to enhance/improve the auto promote feature...

  1. simply let me change the text so instead of "The XYZ news is out...' I could enter customized text to preface the @mentions.  e.g. "Top news stories from > ..." 
  2. allow me to specify day(s) and/or time(s) to tweet.  And I don't think this necessarily needs to be synchronized with when the paper is published.  For example, my paper could update at midnight but not be auto-tweeted until 10am.
  3. let me choose how many top contributors to mention
  4. allow me (maybe even prompt via email) to review edit/update the paper before it's auto-tweeted.  I like this idea because many times I want to change the featured article or remove another before promoting the paper.

I hear you David. We have had a few other requests for this as well. Tell me, how would you see it work - a tweet that you update daily, or would you schedule messages up to xx days in advance?

the manual option is nice, but it WOULD be nice to be able to set up custom pre-defined Tweet text for use in the auto promote feature.

If a user doesn't like the automated promo-tweet there is the possibility of sending out the tweet manually. 

Use the Tweet button at the top of your paper. There you can change the message and send out the tweet when you like.
