Access your Control Center

Within the Control Center, you have fast access to your paper's publishing and promotion settings -and- a visual representation in the calendar below of what you've configured for your paper.

The publishing (updating) of your paper and the promotion (on social media and by email) of your paper are two separate actions.

Both publishing (the updating of your paper) and promotion (sending out notifications via email and/or social media) can be set to either automatic or manual within your paper's Control Center.

Once you have chosen your settings, review the paper's Control Center calendar below the settings to verify when your next paper update and paper promotions are scheduled.

Open the Control Center

From your Paper Settings Dashboard, click the Control Center button at the top.

Close the Control Center

To close the Control Center and go back to your paper, click the X, top right.

Publishing Settings

Under the publishing section, click to edit your settings.  You can turn publishing to AUTO or MANUAL (PRO badge.png).

AUTO PUBLISHING

When your paper's publishing is set to automatic, your paper updates/publishes automatically according to the schedule you've chosen and a brand new edition is created on each update using your content sources.  You can edit your schedule by clicking in the frequency, time and time zone fields.

When Publishing has been set to AUTO, you may edit each edition but all editing should be done after your paper automatically updates!  (Tip: If you plan to edit your auto-created editions, you might want to set your Promotion toggle to MANUAL so that the un-edited version is not auto-promoted.)

MANUAL PUBLISHING (PRO badge.png Pro)

When you set your paper to manual publishing, your paper ceases to update automatically.  You will create a new draft whenever you wish, edit it offline, and publish it whenever you are ready. "Create draft" and "Open draft" buttons are found in the publishing section of your paper's Control Center.  ("Create a draft" button will change to "Open draft" once you have already created a draft.)  Learn more about manual publishing.

Promotion Settings

You can turn promotion to AUTO or MANUAL (PRO badge.png).

AUTO PROMOTION

When your paper's promotion is set to automatic, your newsletters and notifications are sent automatically to any activated social media channels just after each new edition is published (updated) online.  Click on "Edit your social media sharing" to activate social media channels.

MANUAL PROMOTION (PRO badge.png Pro)

When your paper is set to manual promotion, your newsletters and notifications will not be sent automatically for each new edition published.  Instead you receive an email each time your paper is published/updated letting you know that your paper can be reviewed, then promoted, if you wish.  You can then click on "Send Notifications Now" when you're ready to send your emails and notifications.  Learn more about Manual Promotion here.

Setting Combinations - which to chose?

Publication = Auto, Promotion = Auto. For this setting combination, brand new editions of your paper are created automatically according to the schedule you've chosen.  As soon as a new auto-created edition is produced, promotion posts on social media (for the channels you have activated) and emails are sent simultaneously.

If you have chosen this setting combination, you are comfortable with the content your paper is pulling in and you don't wish to do much editing.  Note that you may still edit your paper with this setting combination but you can only edit the current edition after the paper auto-updates according to your publishing schedule.

Publication = Auto, Promotion = Manual. For this setting combination, brand new editions of your paper are created automatically according to the schedule you've chosen. But promotion on social media and emails are not simultaneously sent for each new edition. Instead, you are notified by email after each paper update and you may edit the paper before clicking the "Send notification now" button.

If you have chosen this setting combination, you like the fact that the paper updates by itself automatically, but you prefer to take a final look at the content and edit if necessary (i.e. add content using the bookmark or move the position of the articles) before sending out emails and auto-posts to any activated social channel.

Publication = Manual, Promotion = Auto.  In this case, your paper does not update automatically.  The last published edition remains online until you decide to create a new draft edition and publish it (make it public and available online).  But because Promotion is set to Auto, when you click "publish" in draft mode, all auto-posts and emails are sent instantaneously.

If you have chosen this setting combination, you are a careful curator who wants control over exactly what content is published online.  You might choose this option if:

  • you prefer to update your paper less frequently than what's available in the Publishing Schedule settings -or-
  • you wish to publish more often but prefer to do all editing offline and publish (make it public) when you have all the content you want and in order -or-
  • you wish to use the bookmarklet to add content to a draft version to be published later -and-
  • you have no need to delay the promotion once your paper is online. As soon as you are ready to publish (make your draft public), your promotions are sent instantaneously.

Publication = Manual, Promotion = Manual.  In this case, you paper does not update automatically.  The last published edition remains online until you create a new draft edition and publish it (make it public and available online).  Because Promotion is also set to Manual, when you click "publish" in draft mode, promotions are not automatically and simultaneously sent out when you click "publish".

If you have chosen this setting combination, you are a careful curator who wants control over exactly what content is published online.  You also might choose this option if:

  • you prefer to update your paper less frequently than what's available in the Publishing Schedule settings -or-
  • you wish to publish more often but prefer to do all editing offline and publish (make it public) when you have all the content you want and in order -or-
  • you wish to use the bookmarklet to add content to a draft version to be published later -and-
  • you either don't want the published draft promoted at all (ie. you don't want newsletters and social media promotion sent unless you manually send them by clicking a button) or you wish to promote the edition some time later.

Calendar

After changing your settings, be sure to check the Control Center calendar to verify all scheduled publishing and promotion.  If Publishing is turned to Manual, there are no scheduled updates and therefore no scheduled promotions shown as well.
