Categories and how they are used
Before you relabel your paper's categories, it's important to understand how Paper.li will classify your content into the category.
Paper.li will classify all content fetched from your sources into one of the categories shown in your settings:
- Photos
- Videos
- One of the 15 default Topic Sections. All articles are classified into the "best fit" default topic.
Relabeling a category does not change how we classify your content on the back end, but does let you customize the default labels.
To select the categories that you wish to appear on your paper, from your Paper Settings, click the Content tab, scroll down to Categories > Select Paper Categories.
Note: To turn display of categories ON/OFF, click on the pencil/edit icon at the top of your paper, then click the "edit" button in the "Articles" sub-section:
When you do this, a "Categories" toggle button will appear, which you can use to turn your categories ON/OFF:
Also, If you are using the modern layout (legacy), categories are not shown on your online paper or newsletter; there is therefore no option to rename them!
Relabeling the Categories for Classic Layout (legacy) only
Pro publishers can relabel all default Paper Sections (with the exception of Trending Hashtags).
From your Paper Settings, click the Content tab, then scroll down to Paper Sections > Rename Paper Sections.
You will be able to rename any category selected in the Select Categories menu. If the category was not selected in the Select Categories menu, it will not show in the list to be customized.
The new label will be shown on your paper, in your newsletters, and when using the +Paper.li bookmarklet tool.
