Meta tags can be added in custom header, only problem is that these would not end up in <head> tag of html document but <body>.
So it's not guaranteed that they would work as expected. Maybe some systems would look it into <head> tag only....
In any case this approach is limited to custom domain papers only.

Apparently not. If you add them to the Custom Header, Custom Header HTML section you're good to go!

Good news on META tags. We plan to add the ability for users to edit their own META tags, without having to submit a help ticket to do so.... Stay tuned!

This would be a great feature. I assume it is not in place yet? I am actually looking for a way to do this. Getting a paper to show up in search results in search engines and meta spiders is very difficult without a meta description.

    Hi Geoff,

We have not yet implemented this improvement. I will check with the tech team to see where it falls in the list of priorities. And I will update this forum when it's done.

Edited to say: Your paper title is used as a meta tag title, the subtitle is used in the description tag.

    Good news!

Pro users are able to edit their description and keywords meta tags themselves without contacting us.  These new controls are found in paper settings.

Pro users on custom domains can also add their own google verification tag as well, which optimizes search engine performance.  For more info:  https://support.paper.li/hc/en-us/articles/360000823588-Optimizing-Search-Engine-Performance
