As I understand it Paper.li offers SSL/HTTPS through CloudFlare.
Given that to use SSL on Paper.li you have to have a custom domain, which means a Pro Account and to use CloudFlares SSL option you have to tinker with your DNS settings that a lot of people would just rather not do. Plus, Cloudflare has some issues and the apple is losing a bit of it's shine.
Frankly, at this point in the game all sites should be SSL/HTTPS everywhere. Google is even using it as a metric for their rankings.
There is a new push to bring this to fruition from Let's Encrypt (https://letsencrypt.org/), a non-profit, free and open source Certificate Authority sponsored by some pretty heavy hitters (Mozilla, CISCO, OVH, Facebook).
From the site
"The objective of Let’s Encrypt and the ACME protocol is to make it possible to set up an HTTPS server and have it automatically obtain a browser-trusted certificate, without any human intervention. This is accomplished by running a certificate management agent on the web server."
This is something that Paper.li should leverage for all of it's papers, or at the very least something for the Pro subs.
